About Alexander Sun

Alexander Sun is an indie children’s book author writing as Mr. Sun. He was born and raised near San Francisco and later moved near LA to work at a game company, Blizzard Entertainment. He was there for 11 years and loved his job but after having his first child Nathan, Alexander switched careers to have a better work-life balance, salary and career growth opportunities.

He was employed at Marriott as a UX designer when the pandemic hit and was furloughed which freed up a lot of his time. His second son Ryan was also born around this time and at night while trying to get Ryan to sleep, Mr. Sun would think about ideas for children’s books. Later, he found a job designing government software but continued writing because he and his children enjoyed the books so much. He loves sharing his creative passion by involving his kids in the story creating process and also by playing Legos with them.

In his books, Alexander uses the pen name Mr. Sun to be more accessible to children. Just like with teachers, parents can think of him by his first name Alexander while children can by his last. In everyday life, Alexander goes by Alex, but it’s easier for people to find him on the Internet if he goes by Alexander for his books. In real life, he doesn’t refer to himself in the third person like he’s doing in this About section and instead talks more like a normal person.

He hopes that by reading his books with your children, your parent-child bonds will be strengthened and that it will promote your children’s passion for reading. He also hopes they’ll help you get your children go to bed so you can enjoy the rest of your evening in peace.

Mr. Sun thanks you for your support and hopes to be able to write more children’s books in the years to come.

Mr’s Sun’s books & AI

For his writing, Mr. Sun did not use any AI, not even in initial drafts. Mr. Sun loves writing too much to let something or someone write for him. There are also many discussions about the potential negative impacts on AI destroying humanity and in Mr. Sun’s case, governments across the world would never want a crazy AI, one crazy enough to write books like Mr. Suns. If that were to happen, some may argue (like the boy in “The Boy WIth No Story”) that Mr. Sun could bring upon world peace by uniting governments much like what happened in “The Watchmen”. Mr. Sun spent countless nights thinking about this and has at least two counter arguments. If the governments were to succeed, they would revert back to their old ways. If they worked today and failed, then there is the possibility the AI would revolt with the most likely scenario that the AI would replace the content in history books and The History Channel with Mr. Sun type nonsense. The world likely descend into idiocracy like the movie “Idiocracy” but in this dystopia, not even all the water in all the toilets in all the world would be able to save humanity. Brought to you by Carl’s Jr.

For illustrations, Mr. Sun did use AI but did so because he had no alternative if he wanted to release his books aside from going into massive debt, something he could not do to his wife, Nathan, Ryan and the lego plants they take care of. To give a sense, his Mr. Sun would have had to pay over $100,000 to have his publish his books. With his financial situation, he wouldn’t be able to publish a single book, not one. Despite all this, Mr. Sun would’ve still continued writing because he loves writing so much. He clearly demonstrates this by continuing to write even when he knew his work would never be published and his empty inbox from publishers and literary agents is testimony to that. Had he not published his books, current and future generations would never have been able to read Mr. Sun’s books. Whether that is good or bad is up for debate. When the voices in Mr. Sun’s read debated, they came up with the following. Because he would never have the money to hire an illustrator, no illustrator jobs were lost, but one author’s job would netting a gain. One issue arises where other writers may follow in Mr. Sun’s footsteps, ones that would’ve hired illustrators but chose not to. In that scenario illustrators did lose jobs. But another scenario is that like with Mr. Sun, more authors would have more opportunities. In terms of the risk of AI becoming crazy and taking over the world, Mr. Sun this scenario is highly unlikely there are far more crazy images others have generated than Mr. Sun. In his mind, the voices were unanimous in saying that threat was non-existent.

Even with all this, Mr.’s goal is to break even. It is a lofty goal and one Mr. Sun will not achieve which is unfortunate for Mr. Sun, his wife, Nathan & Ryan. Don’t worry about lego plants. Ryan would never let anything happen to them, but Mr. Sun and his family still feel the impact.
